The California Cannabis Research Medical Group was founded by Tod Mikuriya, MD, to enable doctors who have been monitoring their patients’ cannabis use to share data and observations.
Cannabis is not a conventional medicine at this time, and O’Shaugnessy’s —published by the CCRMG— is not starting out as a conventional journal.
primary goals are the same as the stated goals of any reputable scientific publication: to bring out findings that are accurate, duplicable, and useful to the community at large. But in order to do this, we have to pursue parallel goals such as removing the impediments to clinical research created by Prohibition, and educating our colleagues, co-workers and patients as we educate ourselves about the medical uses of cannabis.
Medical Cannabis Research - In response to the spurious and misleading claims by the U.S Federal Government suggesting that cannabis has "no accepted medical value" Americans for Safe Access has collected some of the most relevant international research into cannabinoids and the therapeutic use of cannabis. This research includes peer-reviewed and published studies, as well as some of the most extensive government examinations into cannabis safety and its potential as a therapeutic agent.
Despite continued political debates regarding the legality of medicinal marijuana, clinical investigations of the therapeutic use of cannabinoids are now more prevalent than at any time in history. A search of the National Library of Medicine's PubMed website quantifies this fact. A keyword search using the terms "cannabinoids, 1996" reveals just 258 scientific journal articles published on the subject for that year. Perform this same search for the year 2007, and one will find over 3,400 published scientific studies.
Oslo, Norway: Cannabis use is associated with "improved neurocognition" in subjects diagnosed with bipolar disorder, according to clinical trial data published online by the journal Psychological Medicine.
Investigators at Norway's University of Oslo, Institute of Psychiatry investigated the association between cannabis use and neurocognition in 133 patients with bipolar disorder. Researchers reported that subjects who used cannabis performed better than non-users on a series of neurocognitive tests. Authors determined that marijuana use was associated with "statistically significant" improvement in attention, executive function, verbal fluency, logistical memory-learning, and logical memory-recall.

Anyone who wants to talk to the Boulder City Council about a possible moratorium on medical-marijuana dispensaries should plan on a late night Tuesday.
The council will consider an emergency ordinance stopping any new dispensaries from opening up until March 31, 2010, so that the city has more time to study whether it wants to regulate the industry.
City officials announced Monday that the agenda for the meeting puts the question about dispensaries near the end of the meeting, meaning public comment about the issue won't begin until about 9 p.m.
The city is anticipating a packed hearing room for the discussion, so the time for each person to speak has been reduced from three minutes to two minutes.

A study conducted by a group of Spanish researchers seem to indicate that there may be a more specific use for the cannabis plant in cancer treatment that goes beyond pain management.
The study indicates that an active ingredient in marijuana, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), may trigger a natural process that will eventually lead to the death of a cell. The study was reported in the April 1 issue of the Journal of Clinical Investigation.
If the study is pursued further and medical viability is established, medical marijuana may be more than just a way for terminally ill patients to deal with their respective diseases. It will become an erstwhile way to win one’s battle over cancer.
